Trade Union Liason Officer

Alan Rivers - Trade Union Liason Officer

A retired Design Engineer and Engineering Project Manager. For most of his working life Alan has been involved in Trade Union activity.

At the age of 26 years I joined the Draughtsmen and Allied Technicians Association (DATA), this was later amalgamated into the AUEW Technical And Supervisory Section (TASS).

During his Trade Union career I have served as Office Rep, Branch Sec, Divisional Council Chairman and Trades Council Rep.

“I joined the Labour Party in 2012 to try to make a difference in the Newbury area.”

“I was taken by surprise with the election of Jeremy Corbyn as leader of the Labour Party but also with a feeling of elation that this man was saying the things that I wanted to hear for the previous 46 years.”

A firm believer in the Collective Bargaining System and as such encourages all party members to join their appropriate Trade Union. The ‘Thatcher Anti-trade Union Legislation’ needs to be reformed giving all working people the opportunity to improve and maintain their wages, working conditions and workers rights that are under threat from bad employers and some proponents of certain aspects of the ‘Brexit Process’. He is certain this will help bring to an end the ‘Austerity Programme’ being enacted by the present Government.
