Labour have announced their candidates for the West Berkshire Local Elections on May 4th, standing 15 candidates in 12 Wards across West Berkshire.  This follows Newbury Labour’s attendance at Sir Keir Starmer’s Local Elections Launch in Swindon on Thursday in which some of the West Berkshire Labour Candidates had the chance to speak directly to the Labour Leader about their Campaigns.

Newbury Labour Secretary Mathew Willis says:

“We’ve seen a really positive response on the doorstep to our Labour candidates, all of whom bring a wealth of experiences that would richly enhance West Berkshire Council. As a party that represents the values and aspirations of the vast majority of working people, Labour candidates would be the finest representatives for Newbury. The Newbury Labour Party is committed to building a fairer society, where everyone has access to the opportunities and resources they need to thrive.

We believe that the Government and Local Authorities has a responsibility and duty to invest in local public services, such as healthcare, education, and social care, to ensure that everyone has access to quality services regardless of their background or circumstances.

In a Labour council, we would defend and preserve our precious green spaces from inappropriate industrial construction or expansion.

West Berkshire Council is out of touch with local people and lost control of its spending, as can be seen by the £750,000 overspend on the Lido and the planned wasted £10-15m on their vanity project the Sports Hub at Monks Lane. This money could be spent on much more worthwhile projects including a range of new sports pitches.

We would hold individuals and companies to account to keep our rivers clean from dumping and pollution. We would be unceasing in our lobbying to West Berkshire Council to ensure that your local public services have the resources they need to keep our communities safe from crime, and that our struggling healthcare services are well staffed and provisioned. These are only a handful of the keystone issues Labour councillors in Newbury would fight for, and this is why we need your help and support to achieve these commitments with your vote this May 4th.

In these uncertain times, it is more important than ever to have a Government that works for a fairer, greener future. As your representatives in the local elections, we will work tirelessly to ensure that your voices are heard and that your needs are prioritised.

We ask for your support in these important local elections so that we can continue to fight for the issues that matter most to you. Together, we can build a brighter and more prosperous future for Newbury.”
