"I feel pasionately about fairness for all and believe that everyone should have opportunites in life, regardless of their background" Lee Mc Dougall - Labour Candiate for Clayhill
Newbury Labour Party is proud to introduce our candidate for the May 6th by-election, for the Parish of Clayhill. This seat forms part of Newbury Town Council.
Lee has lived in West Berks since the age of 11, when he moved with his family from Liverpool. He went to Turnpike School, in the heart of Clay Hill and though he left school without any A-levels, he later completed a Masters Degree in Business in his 30’s. He is married to Sue, a Learning Support Tutor at Newbury College and has 3 sons, Harry and Max are both at University and his youngest son Charlie is in year 7 at Trinity School.
He has worked for Vodafone for many years as a senior manager, leading large teams and departments.
Outside of work Lee has been very active in the local community for many years, from being Chairman of AFC Newbury Boys and Girls, a Trustee of a Newbury Homeless Charity to a director of a Community Interest Company, campaigning for and lobbying the Council for improvements to West Berks’ sports facilities. He also proudly carried the Olympic Torch through Newbury in 2012
His hobbies are football, a keen Liverpool fan who has visited Anfield many times and walking. Lee is currently part way through the John O’Groats to Lands End walk in which he does a small section with a friend each year (and started in 2001 !) and plans on getting to Bristol on his next leg
Lee’s core principles focus on social justice and feels passionately about fairness for all and believes everyone should have the same opportunities in life, regardless of their background.
His relentless campaigning work with Newbury Community Football Group over a 5 year period played a key role in the U-turn by West Berkshire Council to finally agree to replace the football ground in Faraday Road, Clay Hill. Lee has used the Public Questions sections of both the General and Executive meetings of West Berkshire Council to great effect, asking many questions over the last few years. It was Lee’s question in 2018 to Council that led to the revelation the Council had spent £523k on legal costs fighting it’s unlawful property deal on the London Road Industrial Estate.
Having observed the mechanics of Council workings as a member of the Public, he feels that while West Berks Council operates in a manner of political self-interest, Newbury Town Council operates with a real sense of collaborative working, with the community at the heart of its focus and really believes that by adding a voice from the only missing party – Labour, the Town Council can make even greater progress
Promoted By Newbury Labour Party on behalf of Lee Mc Dougall both at 142 Sagecroft Road, Thatcham, Berkshire RG183BQ
